Traditional forms of instruction in America, even before the Revolution, had three specific purposes: to make good people, to make good citizens, and to make each student find some particular talents to develop to the maximum. The new mass schooling which came about slowly but continuously after 1890, had a different purpose, a “fourth” purpose.

The fourth purpose steadily squeezed the traditional three to the margins of schooling; in the fourth purpose, school in America became a servant of corporate and political management.

Children were literally trained in bad habits and bad attitudes!

Teachers and principals, “scientifically”certified in teachers college practices, were made unaware of the invisible curriculum they really taught. The secret of commerce, that kids drive purchases, meant that schools had to become psychological laboratories where training in consumerism was the central pursuit.

Doubtful Dollars

This great little piece was presented by the Aetna Casualty & Surety Company, the United States Secret Service and the Treasury Department. It starts off slow, but soon the point of the video is revealed. “You, the Public, are victims of phony money. And you, the Public, can help prevent counterfeiting if you know your money.”

Your Social Security

A short film explaining how the Social Security System came in to existence, and how it works for you. It also emphasizes how the employees are there to help you, and why Social Security is good. This is a great example of soft core, government propaganda.

1957: Dollars At Work

This animated movie introduces the main character, “Fred Finchley”, as your standard American, working man. He goes to work, does a great job, and gets a raise. Now what should he do with that “extra money”? Well, the bankers from the New York Stock Exchange have all the answers for him, invest in the stock market!

United States Mint And Its Customers

A nice little propaganda piece put out by the United States Mint, disguised as an educational video about “The Money Story”. Discuses the history of money, how it is made and how it is used. This is what they are teaching our children.
